Established in 1981, the Department of Applied Sciences & Humanities (AS&H) forms the academic foundation of engineering education at the institute. The department plays a pivotal role in bridging core scientific principles with professional engineering disciplines by offering comprehensive instruction in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Environmental Science to all first-year engineering students.
The department currently caters to an intake of 1020 first-year students across various branches including Civil, CSE, CSE (AI & ML), Data Science, IoT, CSIT, ECE, EEE, Mechanical Engineering, and IT. It is supported by a strong team of 39 experienced faculty members, including 26 doctorates, along with 11 dedicated supporting staff, all committed to fostering analytical thinking, scientific reasoning, problem-solving ability, and effective communication skills among students.
Beyond academics, the Department of Applied Sciences & Humanities actively contributes to the holistic development of students by promoting soft skills, ethical values, interdisciplinary learning, and critical thinking. A wide range of workshops, seminars, value-added courses, and student enrichment programs are regularly organized to enhance the overall learning experience and prepare students for the challenges of professional life.
