The Department of Information Technology was established in the year 2000 with the objective of delivering high-quality education in a discipline that integrates Computer Science, Electronics, and Communication technologies. The department offers an undergraduate B.E. in Information Technology program with an annual intake of 180 students, in addition to lateral entry admissions. The program is supported by a team of well-qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty, all of whom hold postgraduate degrees, with several faculty members possessing doctoral qualifications in Engineering. The department was accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in 2007, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence.
The department is equipped with modern laboratories designed to meet the evolving needs of Information Technology applications. These labs are supported by skilled non-teaching staff, ensuring effective hands-on learning and technical support for students. To enhance industry readiness, the department actively encourages internships with leading industrial organizations and continuously updates its curriculum to align with current and emerging industry requirements.
To keep students and faculty abreast of technological advancements, the department regularly organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences on emerging areas in Information Technology. Graduates of the department are successfully placed in reputed IT companies, while students aspiring for higher education have secured admissions to top universities in the USA and other countries.
The department strongly promotes co-curricular and professional development activities through active participation in professional bodies such as IEEE, CSI, ITSA, and ISTE. Notably, the IEEE Student Branch at MVSR Engineering College was founded through the Department of IT and has earned two international awards and two state-level awards, with significant contributions from IT students and faculty. The department's Students' Association (ITSA) plays a vital role in organizing academic and skill-enhancement activities including quizzes, debates, mock interviews, alumni seminars, guest lectures, technical fests, and specialized training programs to bridge curriculum gaps. Students are also encouraged to engage in social and extra-curricular activities, fostering holistic development.
The B.E. (Information Technology) program is Provisionally Accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for a period of three years from 01 May 2022 to 30 June 2025.
